CUMBRIA Fire and Rescue Service saved over 30 sheep from a fire that had broken out in a barn near Sedbergh.

On Saturday October 27 at approximately 4pm four fire engines from Sedbergh, Kirkby Stephen and Kendal attended a fire in a detached barn in Ravenstonedale.

When they attended the scene the firefighter's first priority was to remove all of the livestock from a building that was adjacent to the barn.

Over 20 firefighters were involved and using water from the nearby river crews used one host reel jet, two main jets, one compressed air foam set, along with four breathing apparatus and one positive pressure ventilation fan.

The barn, and the bales of hay that was inside, has been completely destroyed.

The fire service were there for nearly six hours. The cause of the fire is still unknown but it is believed to have been accidental.
