A LAKE District photographer has won a prestigious award in a national competition for his atmospheric photo of Derwentwater.

Andrew Jones, of Windermere, shot the winning image of a cloud inversion around Derwent Isle just after dawn earlier this year. It was awarded a judges' choice commendation in the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year 2018 (LPOTY) competition.

"Being featured amongst so many other wonderful images is a real boost to my confidence," said Mr Jones. " I got into photography so I could do justice to the views from the fells. The Lake District is a magical place and being able to capture a moment of it that others appreciate too feels very special."

The image, selected from many thousands of entries, will not only feature the LPOTY book but will be showcased in an exhibition at London Waterloo Station from November 19 until February 3, 2019. The exhibition will then travel around other stations in the United Kingdom.
