A KENDAL legal firm has been thanked for helping will-makers leave more than £1.8 million to Cancer Research UK.

The team at Thomson Hayton Winkley has been offering the charity's free will service for the past 20 years to clients aged 55 and over.

As part of the service, the solicitors give guidance to people wishing to leave money to Cancer Research UK in their will.

More than a third of the charity's research is funded by legacy gifts, and it receives no government money.

Clare Moore, director of legacies at Cancer Research UK, said: “It’s quite astonishing to think that by simply combining enthusiasm with the highest professional standards Thomson Hayton Winkley has helped secure more than £1.8 million worth of legacy gifts, which will go a long way towards helping our scientists, doctors and nurses to beat cancer sooner.”

She said the will service was provided free of any obligation, but most people chose to kindly leave a gift to the charity.

The Stricklandgate solicitors' firm been presented with a gold certificate for its support.
