THE POSITIVE impact on the town of Kendal Rugby Club's new clubhouse complex was acknowledged when it landed a top local award this week.

Kendal Civic Society bestowed their annual main design award on the club for building at the town's northern entrance, which it described as "splendid" and a "real asset to the town."

The award was presented at the organisation's annual members' evening, an event attended by the town's mayor Cllr Guy Trivengadum.

All the awards were presented by Civic Society president Mrs Susie Bagot, who also presented 'Highly Commended' awards to Westmorland Homecare for its rescue and restoration of a dilapidated building on Highgate for use as a fitting centre and to Russell Armer for its attractive new housing development on the site of the old Nurses' Home on Tenterfield.

The second half of what proved to be a very enjoyable evening was given over to an inspirational talk by architect and society member Ian Gibbard entitled 'Kendal: More than Shades of Grey,' on the outstanding variety of design in the town.
