A NEW podcast "with a uniquely Cumbrian flavour" has been launched to celebrate the county's landscape, heritage and culture.

Countrystride is presented by former farmer turned outdoor writer and illustrator Mark Richards, of Bampton, who counted fellwalker Alfred Wainwright among his friends.

The podcast is a collaboration with Keswick-based publisher and producer David Felton. It is described as "a blend of immersive field recordings, inspiring commentary, light-hearted conversation and interviews, all shaped into a single walk" and presented by Mark.

The latest episode explores Wainwright's talents through the memories of his former publisher Andrew Nichol, who oversaw the Westmorland Gazette's printing and book publishing departments.

Previous episodes include a look at footpath engineering during a climb up Scafell Pike with Iain Gray of Fix the Fells; and a conversation with Eddie Pool, the last man to work down Greenside Mine, the lead mine near Glenridding village.
