A Lake District hotel resort has been shortlisted for a national award for the high standards of its health and fitness facilities.

The Health Club at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa on the shores of Windermere is in the running for the ‘Health Club of the Year’ award at the National Fitness Awards in Leicester at the end of November.

The award category judges will consider the newly-refurbished health club for its all-round provision, from its fully-equipped gym and comprehensive fitness class timetables, to high quality wetside facilities, as well as personal training and spaces for members to relax and interact pre and post workout. Customer service levels and staff qualifications will also be considered.

Andy Sharples from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, who manages the Health Club at Low Wood Bay, said: “This is the first time that we have been nominated for the national health club of the year award category which is an achievement in itself.

“We will be up against some really strong competition from full-service city and rural based health clubs from all over the country. The team is thrilled that we have been shortlisted – it reflects their hard work, the standard of our newly refurbished facilities, and the full package we are able to offer. We are looking forward to the awards night in Leicester with great excitement.”

The refurbished health club at the hotel is part of a £16 million redevelopment of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa. It includes a spacious fitness studio with 40 cardio and resistance stations, swimming pool, large steam room, express beauty treatment rooms, a new infra-red sauna and modernised male, female and family changing areas, as well as modern spa facilities.
