A PHOTOGRAPHY competition has been launched in a bid to showcase the beauty of the Lake District.

Last year the Lake District Hotel Association (LDHA) received more than 1,000 entries for the competition and it is now official open once again for entries until December, 20.

There are five themes that photographers can choose from. These includes, animals, activities, such as what you have achieved today and landscapes of the seasons. There is also the 'unusual perspective' category and 'working in tourism,' which depicts the staff who support the area's tourism.

Jennifer Cormack, chairman of LDHA, said: "The inspiration of the original competition was to celebrate the beauty of the Lake District and to illustrate why locals and visitors to the area are so passionate about it.

"There is plenty of stunning photography of the Lake District, so what we’re looking for are images that are unique, depicting beauty from new angles and perspective.

"If you are thinking about entering, we’d like to say go for it! You don’t need to be a professional photographer, we are welcoming all ages and all occupations. We want variety, so please don’t be shy."

The judging panel includes Jennifer Cormack and the sales and marketing director of LDHA, together with representatives from Windermere Cruises, The Creative Branch and professional photographer, Tiree Dawson.

The winner of each category will enjoy the prize of a one night stay at a hotel and tickets for a tourist attraction.
