A KENDAL woman is launching a new opportunity for people of all ages to take part in samba drumming classes and be part of an exciting new band.

Jenny Wroe is drawing on her many years of playing and teaching samba drumming around the globe to create Drum Nation.

She will be teaching a range of drumming styles integrating rhythms from Brazilian samba, modern dance music and carnival tunes from all over the world.

Band members will learn to play a selection of samba drums and will be taught to play and perform the Drum Nation music during weekly practise sessions at local venues.

The band will be performing a range of gigs from the summer of 2019 onwards for a variety of audiences, helping to share the joy and passion of carnival drumming.

Sessions are offered for all ages, there are groups aimed at six to 11-year-olds, 11 to 18-year-olds and adult sessions for those aged 18 to 80. Everyone is welcome and absolutely no experience is necessary, just a positive attitude and enthusiasm to learn. All equipment and professional tuition is provided.

Jenny has been teaching professionally in schools for more than 10 years and has now decided to take a step away from the classroom to focus on launching Drum Nation.

She believes anyone can learn and enjoy playing drums together.

“Samba drumming develops co-ordination, rhythm, strength and is a great way of keeping fit and having fun," she said. "Drumming alongside other people in a band makes you feel connected; playing together in time boosts self-esteem and confidence; and being in a band with other creates friendships.”

Drum Nation is based at Kendal Rugby club and following a free ‘taster’ workshop on Thursday November 15 sessions will commence every Tuesday evening from December. Sessions in Windermere and Kirkby Lonsdale will be launched early in 2019.For more information visit www.drumnationfoundation.com or email drumnationfoundation@gmail.com or search on Facebook ‘Drum Nation’.
