STRIKING new welcome signage and information panels are now in place at Kendal Castle following the completion of an improvement project.

The project, which was carried out by Kendal Town Council in partnership with South Lakeland District Council and Cumbria County Council, has seen the old signage and panels replaced by brighter panels telling the wider story of life at Kendal Castle from the Medieval Period to the present day.

"We are really pleased with the quality of the new interpretation," said Kendal Town Council project manager Helen Moriarty.

"It tells the Castle’s story in an engaging way, creates points of interest for children via the ‘Look Through’ panel and replicates a medieval Kendal map which shows how little some Kendal street names have changed."

The project, which was realised thanks to funding via the 'Locally Important Project' scheme, has also seen the creation of a new audio trail available on the Kendal Castle page at www.visit-kendal.co.uk.

And South Lakeland District Council, which maintains the Castle area, is planning further improvements to the paths at the lower section of the castle which are impassable during bad weather.
