A HISTORIC house in Carnforth has received its second award of the year at a prestigious event.

At the Lancashire Tourism Awards 2018 Leighton House celebrated its achievement for an innovative 'Dual Day Out' in partnership with Carnforth Station.

More than 400 people attended the awards ceremony which recognised the region's attractions' hard work in keeping Lancashire 'firmly on the tourist map.'

From hotels to spas to restaurants and small businesses they bring in approximately £4bn visitor investment to the local economy.

A 'Brief Encounter with Leighton Hall' was introduced in 2017 after the team spotted a demand from coach and tour operators for a multi attraction day out.

The staff would take 'all the pressure off the potential visitors' and organise a day out incorporating the classic steam at Carnforth's famous railway station and heritage centre, followed by an afternoon at the historic house.

Books for the tour doubled in 2018 which saw the team steam ahead of national nominees to receive the Bronze Award in the 'Making Coaches a Better Choice' category at the UK Coach Awards earlier this year.

Co-owner Suzie Reynolds said that receiving these awards showed the teams commitment to local tourism.

"I cannot tell you how thrilled we are to receive awards of this calibre," she said. "We have an amazing loyal and committed family of staff at the hall and a great partnership with Carnforth Station.

"It was a fantastic evening, and I am so proud of the whole team"
