St Patrick's Church, at Crooklands, near Kendal, in the ancient parish of Preston Patrick, was originally named St Gregory's.
The manse, now a nursing home, and the nearby holy well, bears their original name.
This church on the hill has been helped on many occasions by past and present members of Lancaster Canal Trust, Christine and Trevor Cotton, Ann and Peter Livesley, Colin and Linda Ogden, and particularly Keith Tassart, who spent a great deal of his time helping to keep the extensive grounds tidy.
The iconic cross, on the tall tower, lit every night and on special days, is helped by donations from parishioners and passers-by on the M6 motorway, who see this welcome beacon shining out in the night sky.
That this church generates such spontaneous interest and appreciation is so welcome to this rural community.
Many thanks to all that help.
