KENDAL ladies 1s were back at home and keen to continue their winning streak against Ben Rhydding 2s, but had to settle for a frustrating 2-2 draw.

Once both teams had settled, the Greens got the ball moving with some quick passing and went ahead through skipper Vicky Whalley-Jones following a penalty corner in the ninth minute.

Yet despite their best efforts the home team could not increase the tally, even when a Ben Rhydding player was forced to leave the pitch for two minutes for using the back of her stick in the middle of the pitch.

Ben Rhydding managed to penetrate the Kendal D a few times during the first half – both in open play and through penalty corners – but superb saves from Ruth Sealey in goal and her defensive team, kept them at bay until the last few minutes of the first half when the Ben Rhydding striker lobbed the ball over the keeper’s head into goal.

Kendal re-started with determination but the visitors went ahead from a penalty corner in the 47th minute and continued to apply pressure as Kendal were chasing the game. And despite having a goal disallowed for being too high from a penalty corner, they were eventually rewarded when player of the match Celia Powell pushed the ball into the goal in a packed D in the 65th minute.

This left too little time for either team to take any more points from the game, finishing as it did at Ben Rhydding in a 2-2 draw.
