THOUSANDS of residents and visitors braved wind and rain to attend Windermere's Christmas Market at the weekend.

The event hosted more than 30 stalls featuring festive crafts, food and drink which was complemented by street performers and live music.

Hundreds of eager children also waited patiently to visit Father Christmas in his grotto before taking part in seasonal games such as the Elf Trail.

This year the Grinch once again tried to put people off attending through a series of online videos urging them to stay away.

Those who ignored his warnings were met at the event with his green grumpiness, being sternly told not to smile, laugh or enjoy themselves.

Organisers Windermere Tourist Information, Mountain Goat and Cllr Ben Berry thanked everyone involved especially those who worked overnight to make sure the fair still went ahead despite some challenges.

Event director Kate Barton said: "This event wouldn't be possible without our kind sponsors, our hard working marshals and the people of Windermere who host and support us.

"This year was another fantastic success because of the huge team effort. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us!"
