THE search is on for talented young actors and musicians to take part in a performing arts workshop at Giggleswick School.

It will also give them a chance to find out about the latest scholarships now available for senior school students.

The school, which has a reputation for excellence in performing arts, including 100 per cent pass rates in both A levels and GCSEs, is looking for candidates for its subject scholarships as well as reaching out to all potential new students.

The one-day workshop on Saturday January 12 will allow talented youngsters to experience Giggleswick's performing arts departments for themselves.

Jane Paul, marketing director, said: "We are reaching out to youth theatre groups, orchestras, dance companies, drama enthusiasts, singers and musicians and inviting them to take part in the workshop, run by our teaching team.

"Our head of drama, Gareth Warburton, is well known for producing challenging and exceptionally high-quality shows, from complex musicals to Shakespeare, all in our state-of-the-art Richard Whiteley Theatre."

She added: "Head of music, Margie Simper, is a renowned professional soprano in her own right, with a CV which includes the Cambridge Taverner Choir, the Cambridge Renaissance Singers, The Ellen Ensemble and the BBC Daily Service Singers. This experience brings an extra dimension to the learning experience for our pupils.

"The team will split the workshop into drama and music preferences with the two coming together for a performance at the end. It promises to be an exciting day for anyone passionate about performing arts, whatever the genre."

The on-site theatre, which is as well-equipped as any large city venue, was provided by a generous legacy from the late broadcaster and journalist, Richard Whiteley, who was a former pupil at the independent school.
