SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron joined local councillors on Stricklandgate in Kendal this lunchtime to gather signatures for the petition to save Kendal Post Office.
The big push for signatures comes as Post Office Ltd. is set to launch a consultation later this month on whether the town’s main existing post office should be moved into the much smaller WHSmith store. The petition has now gathered more than 3,500 signatures.
“It was a great way to start the New Year getting out there and drumming up support for this campaign which is so important to local people," said Mr Farron. “Public opinion out there is clear: the plans are devoid of all common sense and should be scrapped.
“Once the post office bosses actually come up here and see that there isn’t enough room to swing a cat in WHSmith, they’ll see that these plans are unworkable."
