I would like everyone to please think about taking part in a project that will save you money, reduce your weight and reduce tooth decay, especially in children!

Fizz Free February is coming to Ulverston and South Lakes for the first time.

Will you take the pledge to go Fizzfree?

Friday, February 1, marks the start of Fizz Free February. This means that date is the time to ditch sugary drinks for each of the 28 days in the month.

Fizz Free February is a great way to reduce your sugar intake by cutting out fizzy drinks. By going Fizz Free for all of February you can help yourself on the way to drinking less sugary drinks for the rest of the year too.

Here are some hard truths about soft drinks:

You can save £438 a year if you stopped drinking one bottle of soft drink per day for a year.

Drinking just one can of soft drink 330ml a day could add up to over a stone weight gain per year.

Seventy nine per cent of such cans contain six or more teaspoons of sugar

Tooth decay is the leading cause of hospitalisation among five-nine year olds in the United Kingdom.

For more reasons why you should quit fizzy drinks visit the Fizz Free February website - https://www.sugarsmartuk.org/news/fizz_free_february_2019/

Fizz Free February is supported by myself and by and members of the Ulverston Healthy Town Initiative.

The scheme was originally launched by Southwark Council - see http://www.southwark.gov.uk/health-and-wellbeing/public-health/for-the-public/fizz-free-february.

I encourage you as adults or children to find out more by contacting the website and customising posters and charts on which you can log your progress.

I believe that this can be a fantastic opportunity to take control over your own weight loss and dental hygiene.
