VOLUNTEERS from Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team helped find the body of a 62-year-old woman at a quarry at Millom.
Rescuers provided the police and ambulance service with an escort to locate the woman at Ghyll Scaur Quarry on Saturday.
She had previously been reported missing, and emergency workers were responding to a call about her welfare.
It is not yet known how she died but police said a file had been passed to the coroner.
Volunteers from the mountain rescue helped police access the potentially dangerous site, where stone for road surfaces is quarried by Aggregate Industries.
The rescue team posted its sympathies on Facebook, saying: "Fifteen team members assisted the ambulance services and the police with another tragic incident a few days ago."
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "Police were alerted to a concern for the welfare of a person at The Hill, Millom, at 10.20am on Saturday. Officers attended and found the body of a woman, 62, of Millom.
"There are no suspicious circumstances at this time."
