A MAN and woman snatched more than £1,000 worth of alcohol during shoplifting sprees at three different Booths stores in South Cumbria.

But after being caught, Thomas David Meher, 40, and 56-year-old Dawn King appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today to face five charges.

The pair pleaded guilty to committing offences at three separate Booths supermarkets on different dates within the space of a week during October.

They each admitted stealing alcohol from the company's Windermere outlet on October 10; and from the Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale stores on both October 13 and 15.

Lawyer Brendan O'Leary, defending the pair, told the court: "Effectively this is stealing just over £1,000 worth of alcohol from a number of Booths stores."

The court heard Meher was subject to a court suspended prison sentence and community order at the time he committed the Booths thefts.

Judge Peter Davies adjourned the case for the preparation of background reports.

Meher and King, both of Waterloo Close, Blackburn, are due to be sentenced at the crown court on January 15.

In the meantime they were both granted bail by Judge Davies.
