TO COMMEMORATE three decades of care, St Mary's Hospice will hold a competition for schools within the Furness and South Lakes area.

The Ulverston hospice is celebrating 30 years of providing end of life care to people within the community.

As part of that it has developed a business enterprise challenge where schools will compete against one another to raise as much money as they can.

Each school will receive a maximum of £240, which will then be shared out among smaller groups of students, with each one receiving £30.

The groups will then design a creative plan outlining how they plan to generate as much money as possible from the initial £30 investment. Their ideas will then be pitched to their teachers for the funding required, after which their plans will be put into action.

The money raised will be donated to St Mary’s Hospice. There will be two types of awards - one for the groups who raise the most money within their school and the other for the school that raises the most money.

Each school will also be assigned a local businesses/organisation, which will sponsor them up to £250 and act as a mentor for the students.

Area fundraiser Charlotte Windle said: “This is a fun yet very challenging business simulation that tests the participants and the teams in many different ways. These types of challenges are an excellent way to identify leaders, as well as to promote teamwork and collaborative working.”

At the end of term (March 26) the winning group from each school will be invited to an event at Furness Academy School. Each will face a judging panel, which will assess them. The overall winner will be the group who raised the most.
