MORE than fifty local dancers came together and raised nearly £500 for a charity close to one of the dancers hearts.

People from Grange-over-Sands, Staveley, Lancaster and Storth village attended Reeders Dance Studio's Christmas Charity in a bid to try and raise as much money as possible for local charity, Reverse Rett.

The local organisation holds a special significance to the group as one of the women who attends the weekly classes has a six-year old granddaughter, called Molly, who suffers from Rett Syndrome.

Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic brain disorder which typically becomes apparent after six to 18 months of age in girls.

Symptoms include problems with language, coordination, and repetitive movements. Often there is slower growth and problems in walking.

The event was held at the Victoria Hall in Grange-over-sands on December 19 and it was made up of ballroom, Latin and rock and roll dancing.

James Reeder, who hosted the event and holds weekly dance sessions, said the night was bursting with dance, from the Waltz, Quickstep, the Cha Cha Cha to 'anything you like.'

"We had cakes and mince pies, some party dances and fun dance competitions as well as a dance class for beginners," he said "We also had a raffle during the night which raised £95."

Successful national competition dancer Cherrie Stokes, who used to dance at the studio, also attended the event and said it was one of the 'best dance nights' she had ever been too.
