THE M6 was closed last night following a multi-vehicle collision near Carnforth.
The collision, which was described by police as ‘serious’, happened on the northbound carriageway between junctions 35 (Carnforth) and 36 (Kirkby Lonsdale) near the exit slip road to the A601.
Emergency services were in attendance, including multiple air ambulances, and all three northbound carriageways were causing severe traffic delays.
Highways England said the incident was a ‘serious multi-vehicle collision.’
Northbound traffic was being diverted through Kendal and Highways England traffic officers were working to release vehicles from queues that stretched more than three miles on the motorway.
We have received reports of collisions both on the northbound and southbound M6 around junction 35. Police and Highways England en route to both incidents. Weather is believed to be bad in the area with rain or sleet, so please take care.

There were also reports of a separate accident on the M6 southbound between the same two junctions.
It was not known if there were any injuries as The Westmorland Gazette went to press.
