THE tree in the Picture from the Past photograph (Nostalgia, December 13) was being sent to Albert Square in Manchester.
The location of the picture was the end of the aquaduct from Thirlmere.
|The Rev B.R. Lawson was curate and vicar in that area from 1849-1892 (43 years). That is why there are Lawson cypress conifer trees in the churchyard where he is laid to rest.
On June 1, 1908, a traction engine crashed into Thirlmere. The driver, Mr Francis Wood and his stoker Mr Thomas Hector 'Jack' Allen, were both killed.
They are buried in Wythburn churchyard but have no headstone.
