SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron has hailed Cumbria Day as “another resounding success”.

Today, businesses from across the county, including Hawkshead Relish, Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery and Pennington’s Tea and Coffee, made the trip down to London to showcase the best of the county.

During Prime Minister’s Questions this afternoon, Mr Farron encouraged MPs from across the House to attend the event and to sample the best food and drink that the county has to offer.

“This year’s Cumbria Day was another resounding success," said Mr Farron. “As ever it was a brilliant opportunity to shine the spotlight on the most beautiful county on the planet.

“There was a real buzz at the event, and I hope it will help to provide a boost to the county's businesses and tourist trade.

"My thanks go to all the businesses which came to the event. These businesses show the great range of products that South Lakeland has to offer. It is always an honour to represent our area, but events like this make me particularly proud.”

Also co-hosting the event in the Palace of Westminster this afternoon was Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and The Border.

This year Mr Stewart selected the Appleby Creamery and Original Marquees to represent the businesses of Penrith and The Border.

He said that turnout was extremely high, with MPs, Lords, civil servants and Parliamentary staffers all attending, to sample Cumbrian produce and to learn more about the county’s economy.

Mr Stewart and the other Cumbrian MPs all attended, as did senior members of the Government, including the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Liz Truss MP, and Speaker John Bercow.

Mr Stewart said: “Today has been a massive success and I would like to pay a huge tribute to all of those who came.

"This is the fourth time that Parliament has played host to Cumbria Day, which is an important reminder of the very best of our county. Appleby Creamery and Original Marquees, between them, represent Penrith and The Border’s strengths: a vibrant agricultural economy and a genius for tourism. A huge thank you to them for coming and to all the attendees”
