WINDERMERE Lake Cruises, Ullswater ‘Steamers’ and The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway have been shortlisted for major national tourism awards.

Now in its 15th year, the British Coach Tourism Awards (BCTAs) are among the tourism sector’s most sought-after accolades, featuring 19 different categories.

Windermere Lake Cruises and Ullswater ‘Steamers’ are two of four finalists in the ‘River and Inland Cruise Operator’ category. Windermere Lake Cruises is hoping to be crowned as the best in the business for the third time, having won the award twice in previous years. Ullswater ‘Steamers’ has also been shortlisted thanks to its commitment to welcoming coach groups and for creating new experiences tailored for group travel.

Furthermore, Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Ullswater ‘Steamers’ sister attraction, has also been shortlisted in the ‘Heritage Railway’ category.

Cumbria Tourism’s Managing Director Gill Haigh, said: “Group travel is so important for a thriving tourism economy like ours here in Cumbria and these three wonderful attractions clearly recognise the importance of making coach parties feel welcome.

"It’s also a great reminder of how easy it is to explore The Lake District, Cumbria without having to rely on the car. Congratulations and good luck to all three attractions.”

Jen Cormack, Windermere Lake Cruises’ sales and marketing director said: “We’re really pleased to be recognised by the British Coach Tourism Awards.

"The whole team here really understands how important it is to make a visit to Windermere as easy as possible for the organisers of coach groups and we’re thrilled to have made the shortlist again.”

Rachel Bell, head of marketing & development director of Lake District Estates, said: "We are thrilled that both our heritage visitor attractions, Ullswater Steamers and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway have been shortlisted for the prestigious British Coach Tourism Awards.

"It is testimony to the continued investment in our heritage attractions by the board, the dedication of our employees and focus to continually improve, enhance and update our product offering for today’s and tomorrow’s consumer.”

A panel of industry experts make up the judging panel at the ceremony, organised by the team behind the British Tourism & Travel Show.

Winners will be announced on March 20 at a ceremony at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
