CAMPAIGNERS pressing for a pool to be included in plans for the revamped Grange Lido say they have been encouraged in their fight by the response to a Tweet issued to coincide with last week’s ‘Cumbria Day.’
The Tweet from the Save Grange Lido group’s account asking for support received more than 850 likes and more than 300 retweets. The group says the reaction indicates the level of support for its ambitious plans.
“We are renewing our call for Cumbria Tourism, Tim Farron, Morecambe Bay Partnership and South Lakeland District Council to support our plans for a restored lido with a swimming pool at its heart,” said spokesman Phil Bradby. “It’s time the council’s giant flower bed option is dropped.”
Last week SLDC’s cabinet backed an alternative plan where the lido buildings were restored but the pool area filled in and landscaped. The SGL group vowed to battle on despite the result and will meet Swim England and Grange Town Council as it continues to push for their option of a full restoration of the pool.
