JOHN Farrer and Co, Tea and Coffee Merchants, in Kendal,  has kicked off its 200-year celebrations with a special visit from a royal guest.

The coffee roastery welcomed HRH the Countess of Wessex on her visit to the South Lakes.

The South Lakes business is one of the UK’s oldest coffee roasters providing high-quality teas and coffees across the county and beyond.

During her time the Countess met with members of staff and was taken on a tour of the site.

She also marked the visit by unveiling a plaque to mark the 200th anniversary of the award-winning coffee and tea merchant.

As a gift, the Queen’s daughter-in-law received a hamper of the company's 1819 Blend Coffee and 2019 blend Tea.

General Manager David Walsh said he was absolutely excited to welcome the Countess to Kendal.

The full story of her visit will be in tomorrow's edition of The Westmorland Gazette.
