Numerous flood alerts were put in place for Cumbria today, though some have now been lifted.

The A593 is partially blocked due to flooding from B5286 (Clappersgate) to Shepherds Bridge Lane (Coniston). Traffic is coping well.

Flooding is already reported on the Fletchers Wood road between the A593 and Elterwater.

Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster:

The Environment Ahency said: "River levels and lake levels will remain high on the rivers Rothay, Brathay and their tributaries and also on Windermere and the River Leven as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.

"More rain is expected overnight and into Saturday morning. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland remains possible during this period.

"Low-lying land and roads in the Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Hawkshead, Rusland Valley, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cartmel, Cark and Winster Valley areas will be affected. We continue to closely monitor the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses."

Rivers Lowther and Eamont:

The Environment Agency also says flooding is possible to low-lying land and roads in the Bampton, Patterdale, Glenridding, Dockray, Pooley Bridge, Dacre areas.

"High river and lake levels are possible on the River Lowther, Haweswater Beck, Goldrill Beck, Grisedale Beck, Glenridding Beck, Aira Beck, Ullswater, River Eamont, Dacre Beck, Thacka Beck and their tributaries. The level of Glenridding Beck has peaked but with further rain forecast overnight and into Saturday this alert remains in place."

Rivers Kent and Bela:

An earlier flood alert has been removed as a result of river levels dropping.

The Environment Agency said: "We do not currently expect them to reach flood alert levels despite further rainfall during Friday night into Saturday morning. However, we continue to closely monitor the situation."

Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck:

A flood warning is in place for Keswick campsite.

The EA said: "The level of Derwentwater remains high at the Lodore gauge as a result of the persistent rainfall on Friday.

"Some further rain is expected overnight from Friday night into Saturday morning. Consequently the land around the lake may remain flooded.

"We expect the level in the lake to respond to further rainfall therefore this warning remains in force for Saturday. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid contact with flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near the lake, which may be flooded."
