THE day has finally arrived for the Kendal and District Lions Club as they open their new bookshop today.

Following the closure of their first bookshop in July, which was near Marks and Spencers, club members have been waiting 'eagerly' for a new space to become available.

The new charity store is in the Westmorland Shopping Centre and is open today until 4pm.

Kathleen Dennison the president of the Kendal club said the new shop was 'bigger, better and brighter'.

"We want to thank everyone who has donated so far," she said, "donations just keep coming in which is fantastic."

The shop sells a good selection of books along with puzzles, dvds, board games and cds.

The club has raised money for the local community for more than 40 years.
