LIAM Conroy believes he is going into his British title showdown against Joshua Buatsi next month with “nothing to lose”.
The Barrow light-heavyweight has finally earned his long-held ambition of fighting for the Lonsdale belt after a clash with the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist was agreed for Saturday, March 23.
Conroy is full of respect for Buatsi, who has won all nine of his contests since turning professional, and while he is aware he goes into the fight as the underdog, the 26-year-old is in no doubt he can cause a shock.
“My mindset is I’ve got absolutely nothing to lose,” Conroy told iFLtv. “Everyone is writing me off and I can see that from my Twitter notifications.
“But I will be relentless in this fight and I will do everything I can to win this British title because, like I said, this has been my dream since I was a little boy.
“I want to stay in these top fights, in these big shows and on this top table. I’m sure MTK will be able to do that if I win this fight and win this British title. This is why we come into boxing and why we turn pro.
“He’s (Buatsi) a good fighter. He deserved the hype from his amateur career and what he did in the Olympics. But he’s got a lot to learn as a professional and I think it’s a step too far to face me.”
