Market Drayton Town 2 Kendal Town 4

NEW-look Kendal Town made light of their crisis to claim a shock 4-2 Evo-Stik League West Division North win at Market Drayton Town.

And to make the on-the-road success all the more remarkable, the Mintcakes who fielded 11 debutants - came from 2-0 down for the win.

Kendal made an awful start and were 2-0 down in the first ten minutes after goals by Paul McMullen and Jordan Davies.

McMullen scored from a corner after five minutes before Davies fired in an unstoppable effort soon after.

However, Kendal battled their way back into the game when Aaron Helliwell converted a penalty kick before Cory Vickers drew the visitors level with a clinical finish from close range.

Kendal with all the momentum dominated the hosts before edging in front after Helliwell scored his second penalty following a foul in the area as the Mintcakes were 3-2 up at the break.

Kendal were comfortable during the second half and looked lively on the break while Market Drayton Town struggled to gain any ascendancy which left the home crowd frustrated.

Market Drayton eventually got into the game only for Kendal’s defence to stand firm, while the pace of George Mason left the home team susceptible to the counter attack.

Kendal were more likely to score with Helliwell, Mason and Vickers creating opportunities for the visitors.

However Kendal sealed the points with 13 minutes to go after George Mason scored from close range following a clinical counter attack that caught the home team off guard.

From that point Kendal closed out the last ten minutes with ease to seal a crucial win that moves Kendal to within 1 point of safety.

Kendal are home to Glossop North End on Saturday in the big relegation six pointer before entertaining Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night.
