AS A result of a successful funding application to the Postcode Lottery from South Lakeland District Council Parks and the Friends of Nobles Rest 25 bird boxes have been located on trees in Town View Field, Nobles Rest park and Swine Parrock wood at Kendal.
A team of local people and organisations made and fitted the boxes, including members of the Friends of Nobles Rest, who bought the wood and put preservative on them, Kendal Men in Sheds, who made the boxes, and the SLDC arboriculturalist, who organised contractors to locate the boxes.
Five slightly different designs of bird box, courtesy of Cumbria Wildlife Trust, were built for a range of different birds, including Robin, Blue or Coal Tit, Great Tit, Tree and House Sparrows, Nuthatch, Starling and Great Spotted Woodpecker.
We just need some birds to move in for the nesting season now.
Further funds from the Postcode Lottery will be used to benefit environmental projects over the next 12months.

Chair of the Friends of Nobles Rest
