BLUE Badge holders in the Kendal area are being urged to make their views known as soon as possible on the proposed new disabled parking arrangements in the centre of the town.

Cumbria County Council have proposed removing the disabled bays on Market Place and Finkle Street and replacing them by allowing disabled drivers access to ‘dual-use’ bays on Highgate and Stricklandgate between 11am and 4pm.

The move has promoted a campaign of opposition led by Shirley Alker, 87, who recently submitted a petition of more than 1,200 signatures to CCC opposing the new arrangements, which she argues make parking much more difficult for the disabled.

A consultation period on the issue is currently in progress, but this is due to end on March 3 and Ms Alker has urged every concerned resident, and in particular

Blue Badge holders, to make their views known.

"Please register your views as soon as possible as time is running out," she said.
