Good football and dominance provided little reward after Kendal Town, who lost 2-1 to Kidsgrove Athletic last night.

Kendal played some superb football. However, missed opportunities and two mistakes were the difference between the two sides on a frustrating night at the St and B Accountants Stadium.

After losing to Glossop at the weekend Kendal played much better and put in 90 minutes of great effort against a very strong Kidsgrove team.

Kendal's new team impressed the sparce crowd on a wet and miserable night and showed what potential there is within this group of players.

Kidsgrove are a difficult team to play. They work hard, defend well and can cause problems. However, Kendal more than matched a far more experienced outfit.

It is easy to forget this Kendal team has only played three games together after a mass exodus saw 12 players depart the club.

There are encouraging signs moving forward but at the same time the need for points isessential.

Kendal are in that precarious second from bottom position and remain four points adrift from Glossop North End.

The Mintcakes still have opportunities to get themselves out of trouble. But they face a tough game at Colne on Saturday, before they play two crucial relegation six pointers when they host Market Drayton Town on Saturday, March 2 before travelling to play Skelmersdale United on Tuesday, March 5.

Both those games are huge for Kendal if they are to survive relegation. If Kendal can pick up points the picture at the bottom will change. Teams such as Market Drayton Town and Clitheroe would get dragged right back into trouble should Kendal win some games.

Kendal are still in there fighting.

It was disappointing to see such a sparce crowd of 70 at the St and B Accountants Stadium. Regardless of the off field politics, the team deserves more support and especially when they are in a fight to stay up, more fans are needed if only to encourage the players.

Support the team!
