RUNNERS are invited to take part in a seven kilometre night run to support essential ongoing conservation work around the Lake District.

The National Trust has organised the event at Langdale as part of a national series of night-time trail running events, organised in partnership with outdoor retailer Cotswold Outdoor.

Sticklebarn is one of a number of National Trust places hosting this year’s programme which saw more than 5,000 people taking part in runs across the country in 2017/2018.

Starting from the Sticklebarn pub as night falls on Saturday March 9, the route is totally traffic free, mostly on paths and trails with some stimulating uphill sections. It is ideally suited to people who want to challenge themselves.

Gareth Field, Outdoor & Sports Programme Manager at the National Trust, said: “I’m really excited that the Night Run is coming to Langdale – it’s an event not to be missed.

"It’s a great opportunity to explore the valley by night and see the mountains in a different light, whilst helping to raise some important money to support the National Trust’s work of caring for special places.”

By going on a Night Run runners will be helping the Trust to preserve special landscapes and care for the bats and owls that may be heard on the route. Everyone taking part will also receive a wooden oak leaf medal.

“It’s open to all abilities and if you’d rather walk than run you’re more than welcome to. Whether you made a New Year’s resolution to get more active or are looking for something fun and different in the great outdoors, this event is for you," said Gareth.

Steve Hulbert, Senior Partnerships Manager at Cotswold Outdoors, said “Adventures come in all shapes and sizes, and Night Run is no exception. We’re thrilled to be working with the National Trust on the Night series once more, and look forward to sharing our passion for the outdoors and expert advice in-store with its supporters.”
