AN INN known for its 'spectacular views' has re-opened with a new and 'fresh' identity after it was closed to the public for several months.

The Uplands Inn, formerly known as the Uplands Hotel, in Cartmel near Grange-over-Sands has gone through a complete transformation from when the new owners took it over nearly two years ago.

With a new and bigger carpark to accommodate for more guests as well as a larger lounge area and new cosy bedrooms and bathrooms Mr and Mrs Clegg, who co-manage the Uplands Inn, were excited to unveil the establishments new look.

James Clegg, said he had an idea of what he wanted the former hotel to look like when he took it over nearly two years ago.

"The Inn wasn't in a good state when we brought it and it really needed some tender loving care," he said "When I first saw it I could see its potential and where it could go. The Inn has incredible views you can't deny that. So I was excited to get on with the makeover.

"We also wanted to change the name from the Uplands Hotel to the Uplands Inn because we wanted to show that it was not just a pub, nor was it just a hotel for guests to come and stay and so in that way we have changed its identity a little bit."

The building was shut to the public for two months while works went underway.

"It was a quick turn around really," said Mr Clegg. "We've done an astronomical amount of work in such a short space of time and it's been fairly stressful but it's also been very exciting."

"We wanted to make the inn a home from home not only for tourists who come and visit but also for our regulars, as they mean a lot to us."

The Inn now has a new more relaxed lounge bar area with a smaller formal dinning room. All five bedrooms, including the bathrooms, have been refurbished.

Along with the refurbishment there's been a change in the food menu and the drinks menu.

"All the food is locally sourced and the bar now stocks more than 85 gins and 10 tonics" added Mr Clegg. "We also have a fantastic whiskey selection.

"It's been a fun adventure, we've had our ups and downs like anyone else would have, but all in all it's been fun to do up."

Following its expansion the newly refurbished Uplands Inn is now looking for staff.
