ONE of Kendal’s main attractions is its castle. A lot of the people who visit Kendal as tourist will wonder up to the castle.

A very popular way up to the castle is from Castle Road via the gate a little way up Castle Road from its junction with Castle Street.

The way up to the castle from this gate is not so steep a climb and the views from it are good almost from the start.

But this entrance to the castle looks a disgrace. There was once a well-kept flower bed, now a sea of mud; a tatty-looking bench and cracked paving stones. Sometimes a van or car is parked across this entrance. What a visitor would think of this mess I do not know.

Locals have tried to tidy it up but there is not much we can do.

What a let down for Kendal with a tatty-looking entrance to one of its main attractions.

If the town does not have the money to replant the flower bed and renew the bench then why not just pave the whole area and then put some boulders on it to stop parking on it?

This surely would not cost that much and would at least make this way into the castle look well kept.

For goodness' sake get rid of this blot right by a well used entrance to our castle for both locals and tourists.
