MUSIC superstar Jess Glynne is on her way to Carlisle.

The Rather Be singer today announced she is staging a huge open-air show in Bitts Park on Sunday, August 4.

The event is the second major concert to be announced for the venue this summer, with Madness already confirmed for a show there on June 9.

Glynne’s show will see what is bound to be a successful return to Carlisle, having played a sell-out gig at the city’s racecourse in the summer of 2017.

Announcing the concert, she said: “See you in the summer Carlisle!

“Get your tickets now. Big love. Can’t wait xx”

The star’s show is yet another tier of what promises to be a big year of music, with a string of top gigs and events lined up at venues including Bitts Park, racecourse, the Sands Centre and the Old Fire Station.

That’s on top of staples such as Kendal Calling.

The announcement of a second summer event in Bitts Park is further confirmation of promoters’ high hopes for that as a venue coming on the back of concerts by the likes of Little Mix, Bryan Adams and Sir Tom Jones in recent years.

Liz Doogan-Hobbs, chief exectutive of LHG Live, promoters of the concert, said “Jess is such an incredibly vibrant and mesmerising artist, arguably the most successful female artist of the moment whose hits have dominated the charts so we are looking forward to a fantastic concert in Carlisle.

“We have no doubt tickets will fly!”

Jess - the only female solo artist to have seven number ones in the UK singles chart - rose to prominence in 2014 as the featured artist on singles Rather Beby Clean Bandit and My Love by Route 94, both of which reached number one in the UK.

Her debut album I Cry When I Laugh debuted at number one in the UK Albums Chart in 2015.

It boasted the hit singles Hold My Hand and Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself. The much awaited second album Always In Between released in 2018 was another number one.

Tickets for her Bitts Park show go on sale at 9am on Friday.
