ONE of Kendal’s newest culinary experiences - The Supper Club, by Heathen Vegan - has this week moved into larger premises.

Kendal couple Julia Savory and Tim Price opened the town's first vegan supper club at their home at King's Arms Cottage on Low Fellside last summer. They ran a booking-only fine dining evening experience with a monthly three-course set menu made from freshly-cooked ingredients.

Due to its success The Supper Club by Heathen Vegan is moving from its current venue, overlooking the Booths store, to the well-known Waterside vegetarian Café and Bistro on Kent View which was established in 1979. It has been owned and run by Magdalena and Krzysztof Linowiecki since December 2014.

"At the moment Waterside is open during the day," said Julia. "But the idea now is to open on Friday and Saturday evenings to cater for a growing demand in Kendal for an eatery that serves high-end vegan food.’

Since opening The Supper Club last summer, Julia and Tim have received nothing but rave reviews from their customers on the vegan bible HappyCow.net and their Facebook page.

"We had no idea that there was such a demand for this type of establishment," said Julia. "We thought opening once a month would suffice but it soon grew from once a month to once a week to twice a week with people having to go on a waiting list for a table."

With Julia developing the menus and cooking the food, Tim has created a jazzy place in which to eat. It will be the same formula at Waterside. Tim said: "We created a place we wanted to go to, and hoped others would like it.

"Moving to the Waterside is a logical next step for both parties. I think that we will be offering the first exclusively vegan suppers in the whole of the South Lakes area and we can bring our ‘homely, cottage style’ atmosphere to the Waterside."

Magda said: "We are really looking forward to having Julia and Tim here in the evenings. We are responding to what our customers have asked for which is somewhere to go in the evenings.

"To start with it will be Fridays and Saturdays only, but with their growing reputation I don’t think it will be long before they open during the week, especially with the tourist season fast approaching.

"We have so many ideas about how we can work together to create a really good vibrant vegan scene here, right in the heart of Kendal."
