The National Flood Forum, together with Flood Re – the government-backed, not-for profit scheme that reduces the costs of home insurance for those in high flood-risk areas – is bringing its ‘Let’s Talk About Flooding’ campaign to Lancaster this weekend.

The campaign is intended to bring together people who have either been affected by flooding or are at risk to share experiences and learning, as well as to identify their issues and priorities for the future.

The event will be held at Friends Meeting House in Lancaster on Saturday, March 16, 2019 between 10am and 2.30pm.

Following the flooding in and around Lancaster and elsewhere in the North West last year, this event will be an opportunity for people to discuss the measures that the insurance industry, government, community groups and individuals are taking to reduce the risk and to consider what flood risk management should look like in the future.

Paul Cobbing, Chief Executive at the National Flood Forum, commented: “We look forward to bringing the next ‘Let’s Talk About Flooding’ event to Lancaster. Attendees at our Birmingham and Kent events have given great feedback, and it has been interesting to learn about and share different concerns and practices across the country.

“This event provides a chance for those working and living in and around Lancaster to meet and share their experiences, issues and concerns they have around flooding with each other. The priorities that people identify in these sessions will be taken forward to be shared with key policy influencers at a national conference for flood risk communities later this year”.

Flood Re launched in April 2016 as an independent body to promote the affordability and availability of flood insurance for homeowners across the UK. Since its introduction, four out of five householders with previous flood claims saw a reduction in the price of available quotes of more than 50 per cent. More than 60 insurer brands – covering 90 per cent of the home insurance market – are now able to cede policies to the Scheme.
