MONTHS of practice paid off for the Year 7 girls of Windermere's Lakes School as they emerged triumphant in their category at the Cumbria School Games Spring Finals.
The event in Penrith saw almost 700 children from across the county taking part in the sportshall event, which involved high tempo relay races and challenging field events.
And the Lakes School girls qualified via intra and inter school events to see off the other Year 7 girls' teams to proudly lift the trophy.
There was also a double success in the Key Steps Gymnastics Finals for Lindal and Marton Primary School who took the trophy for both Key Step 2 and 3.
“It’s wonderful to see all the children taking part in the activities over the last two days," said Richard Johnston, senior operations manager for Active Cumbria who played a key part in organising the event.
"The hard work put in by the local school games organisers, sports leads and teachers was evident throughout making for an enjoyable event. All of the young people involved gave some really great performances and it was great to see the first Cumbria School Games medals of 2019 handed out to teams from across the county.”
