A LAKE District B&B has been awarded the prestigious title of England’s Bed and Breakfast of the Year 2019 by an international industry awards body.

Under the management of Matthew and Lucy Redman since August 2018, Elder Grove B&B in Ambleside beat off stiff competition to take home the prize at the 2019 Travel & Hospitality Awards.

The awards aim to celebrate the best in hospitality and leisure across all six continents, and several industry experts are involved in judging the overall winners.

“Recognising the accomplishments of establishments across the travel industry, winners of each category excel in criteria including local knowledge, customer feedback, location and facilities.

“We’re over the moon to have won this award”, said Matthew. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response since we took over management of Elder Grove B&B, and to be recognised for our hard work after less than a year at the helm is incredible.

“We welcome a lot of repeat visitors and have aimed to create a home away from home for our guests. Their positive feedback is so important to us, and this award is just the cherry on top of the cake.”

The couple bought Elder Grove last summer, having left their corporate jobs in Somerset.

The guest house is ranked as ‘Exceptional’ on Booking.com, and ‘Excellent’ on TripAdvisor.

The B&B can sleep up to 18 guests at a time, making it a great option for groups visiting for activities such as photography courses, sightseeing and walking tours.
