LIAM Conroy is determined to be back competing for the British title soon after his return to the ring was confirmed for next month.

The Barrow light-heavyweight will be back in action on the MTK Fight Night card in Brentwood, Essex, on Saturday, May 11, with his opponent to be confirmed.

Conroy became the first boxer from the town to compete for the Lonsdale belt last month, being stopped in the third round by unbeaten Olympic bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi at London's Copper Box Arena.

It was the former English champion's first bout following a long lay-off and he is eager to get another taste of the big time.

"I’d been out for a year before getting in with Buatsi and being in there reminded me how much I love boxing – the feeling and the atmosphere," Conroy told the MTK Global website.

"The fact it was a big show with all the press activities before it made me realise how much I want to be doing that kind of thing. I’d never experienced it before and I want to get back to it because I loved every minute of it.

"I learned that I’m ready for that kind of big stage on the big shows. I really enjoyed it.

"I’m ready for that and it’s just a matter of time before I’m back on them. I still want the British title."
