ROOSE Cons are the first team through to the snooker final of the Barrow Friday League play-offs after a 2-1 win over British Legion.

Nick Wilkes put Roose into the lead by defeating Legion captain Alf Carruthers in the first match, taking the last three reds then the green, brown and blue individually which led to Carruthers conceding on the pink.

A close-fought second match saw Lee Majors triumph over Ray Gardner to put Roose into the final.

The match was locked at 56-56 going into the closing stages, with Majors holding his nerve to pot blue and pink to seal the win.

The match was played to a finish with the final game seeing Mike Smith pull one frame back for the Legion by defeating Roose captain Dave Kewley.

Vickerstown Cricket Club booked their place in the billiards final against British Legion by defeating the champions' clubmates, Legion A, 2-1.

Paul Fieldhouse edged the first game for Legion A 100-95, beating Peter Scott, but David Holmes hit back for Vickerstown by overcoming Tony Macmillan 100-57.

It all came down to the last match between Gareth Willis and Steve Hetherington, and Willis prevailed for the Walney side with a 100-65 win to secure their final spot.

Navy Club B will play Legion A in the darts final after Ian Goodwin (107,100), Dave Wilkie (100), Joe O'Leary (100), Chris Kirkby (140, 100) and Andy Charnley secured a 5-2 win over Vickerstown.

Navy are into the welch don final too after beating runners-up Vickerstown 5-1.

n THE Friday League are saddened to hear the loss of one their long-serving members, Pat Kyle from the Navy Club.

Pat received the coveted Friday League Merit award in the 2017 season for his services to the league, having captained and played snooker and cards since the league was formed.

The League send their condolences to his wife and family.
