THE chair of a long-standing South Lakeland angling association has issued a plea for more young people to join the group.
Chris Walker, of the Fisher Tarn Anglers Association, based at Fisher Tarn Reservoir on the outskirts of Kendal, said: "We have all got to an age - we're all in our 60s and 70s now - and we've no youngsters coming on at all."
According to Mr Walker, the association is now in its 70th year, while the reservoir is "one of the last places in the North West where you can go and still catch large brown trout."
He suggested that the lack of youth coming through is due to a culture change - with a greater focus on technology and less on outdoor pursuits.
"Fathers and grandfathers just don't seem to fetch them [children] up fishing anymore," he added.
Mr Walker, 73, invited young people to come along to the reservoir and have a go themselves:
"If there is anybody out there that has any piscatorial skills in fly fishing, who fancies their chances... give me a ring."
