LAST summer we had a increase in the number of tourists visiting the Lake District, yet no effort was made by South Lakeland District Council to either reopen or update existing public toilets within the district.
One public toilet that has remained closed is at Ferry Nab car park at Bowness. This car park is very popular with both boat owners and foot passengers using the Windermere ferry. Needless to say the woodland surrounding the car park is regularly being used as a toilet.
The nearest are at the Glebe or the free National Trust one across the lake at Ferry House.
If SLDC and Cumbria Tourism wish to encourage and promote the tourist to visit the Lake District then it would make sense to provide adequate public toilets, rather than our woods and verges becoming toilets.
