DREAMCATCHER: Alex Hossack and Catherine Aubrey interpret your dreams

Polly’s Dream:

I had only been asleep for an hour and had a bad dream!

It was way too scary. I had gone to work but it was night time and I was with three to four other people, including my boss.

Every time I went round to the passenger side of my van, I would feel a dark invisible presence stopping me!

It smashed the wing mirror off and the bonnet.

I jumped back screaming but my boss said “there is nothing there, look!” and pushed me towards the van.

I held my hands out in front of me and felt a strong force, a bit like I was putting my hands in dense slime, but invisible. The next thing I was being thrown in the air across the yard into a wall!

I got up and looked towards the van and saw a dark mass around it. I start to cry and scream and we all ran away. At this point I woke up.

Dream Interpretation:

The dreamer starts the dream by making her way to work but this doesn’t sound like part of her ordinary routine in that it is night time and she is in a state of anxiety.

This suggests that she may be living in a constant state of tension and is either trying to ignore it or can’t find the reason why which is represented by the ‘dark invisible’ presence.

However, in the dream she is aware of its destructive and traumatic effect.

The inclusion of her ‘Boss’ in the dream indicates that the controlling or managing aspect of her psyche is ceasing to provide the security she requires and she may fear that she is losing control? This theme runs throughout the dream.

A sense of helplessness is also represented by her going to the ‘passenger’ side of the vehicle in that the ‘passenger’ side may represent being supported or carried along and may be an issue in her conscious or unconscious life i.e. she may be aware or unaware of it.

The feelings are becoming more and more overwhelmingly destructive. She feels pushed to do something about it, but whatever is causing her state of distress feels too daunting for her to address it. There could be a conflict developing and the feelings are now too strong to ignore.

In summary, this dreamer is confronted in her daily life by strong threatening feelings which she feels pushed to do something about but has failed to do so. The situation is threatening and fearful and remains unresolved.

If the dreamer would like to provide feedback about the interpretation, please send it to ACDreamcatchers@mail.com.

Interestingly, we have found it is not always possible to interpret your own dream, probably because it often represents the sublimation of feelings or thoughts that we are trying to avoid in our waking lives. However, with a little assistance from the dream interpreter, the symbols and themes can start to make sense and help us to move forward.

If you are interested in having a particular dream analysed, please send us an account of your dream to the following email address: ACDreamcatchers@mail.com

We only have space to interpret one dream a week which will be selected from those received. Please refer to the guidance provided to describe your dream as this will enable us to provide a full interpretation.

Guidance for the Dreamer

· Record your dream in writing as soon as you wake up with as much detail as possible.

· First of all ask yourself who is in the dream.

· Where are you, what is happening to you and what is happening around you?

· Record how you are feeling about what you and/or others are doing.

· Are there particular symbols or objects in the dream that are unusual?

· Are there any sounds and is the dream in colour or black and white?

· Are you watching yourself in the dream or are you experiencing it first-hand ie: through your own eyes.
