FOR those who enjoy a good laugh Cloud 9 is the place to be.

Come next month, and Cumbria Animal and Hen Rescue is bringing together a bunch of comedians that promises to have the punters rolling in the aisles.

Staged at Cloud 9 on Barrow's Dalkeith Street, MC for the Friday, May 24 (8pm), 18-plus fundraiser, will be Mike Wilkinson, bursting no doubt with his usual down to earth northern charm. A professional comic for more than 10 years, Mike has supported Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Ross Noble, Jason Manford and others, and headlines comedy clubs across the country.

Opener will be Tony Basnett, who started his stand up career while studying at Leeds Met University back in 2008. Originally from Hartlepool and now living in Manchester Tony has taken the circuit by storm. Described as an upbeat and playful comic, Tony has been seen across the country at top comedy clubs as well as performing at some of the UK’s major music festivals. With a mischievous and positive style that will get any crowd to warm to his charm.

Also in the line up is A J Hill, who has one of the quirkiest acts your likely to see, and has a "brilliantly unpredictable style," according to Cup of Beans Comedy. Also, delivering her well written side-splitters will be Anna Thomas, regarded as super refreshing and original in a sea of beige.

And so to the top of the bill: Ian Stone, ranked among the nation's top ten stand ups by The Independent. Ian is edgy and provocative, with an easy going manner and self-depreciating style. He's a member of the Comedy Store's critically acclaimed Cutting Edge team and has scores of TV appearances under his comedic belt, including two shows of Mock The Week, The World Stands Up (Paramount Comedy 2005), Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC 2), Saturday Live; the list goes ever on.

Seriously funny, The List puts him as a cross between Tony Hancock and Frankie Howerd.

He has performed all over the world including comedy festivals in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Africa, Holland, France, Ireland and Germany. He’s entertained the troops in Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo, Cyprus and Afghanistan. And was the first British stand up to perform in Moscow and the first performer to appear for The Comedy Store in Mumbai.

On Absolute Radio, he co-presented Rock n Roll Football with Ian Wright every Saturday afternoon throughout the football season for six years. The show was awarded a Sony Silver Award for best sports programme in 2012 and in 2015 won the Gold Award for best Specialist Programme of the Year at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards.
