One of next week's planned local elections has been cancelled after the death of a candidate.
Councillor Martin Pugmire, of Keswick, died yesterday.
He had been a member of Keswick Town Council for 14 years and was Mayor of Keswick in 2010
In September 2011 he became an Allerdale councillor for the Keswick ward when he won a by-election.
He was re-elected in the 2015 elections but had decided not to stand again for the borough council in next week's election.
He was, however, a candidate for election in the town council's east ward.
Because of his death, the election for the town council's east ward had been cancelled, as required by electoral rules.
A new date for that election will be announced shortly.
A council spokesman said: "No other elections are affected.
"Our thoughts are with Coun Pugmire's family and friends."
