There are reports of traffic backing-up into the town after an accident on Milnthorpe Road in Kendal.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said they were called to a collision between two cars - a Ford Kuga and a Peugeot 206 - at 12.50pm.
They added that an ambulance was called as a precaution but at this time it does not appear that there are any serious injuries.
Highways are also in attendance owing to reports of oil on the road following the incident.
