100 YEARS AGO - 1919
The resurrection of the motoring of all shapes and sizes was one of the wonders of this Easter. After some years, people who use the motor for pleasure were encouraged to take their fling again.
50 YEARS AGO - 1969
Scores of people in the Kendal area and elsewhere in Westmorland saw a UFO which was also sighted over England, Wales and Ireland, a few minutes before 9.30pm. One witness described it as being white and moving off at fantastic speed leaving “a trail of fragments of different colours.”
25 YEARS AGO - 1994
The pilot of a military Tornado jet which collided with a civilian helicopter over Farleton, sending it plummeting to earth, killing the two occupants, told an inquest he presumed the plane had struck a flock of birds
